Earliest Known Ancestor – Descendant Tree

  • Earliest Know Ancestor #1: William Rowland (1742-b1810), was born in Wales and migrated to Pennsylvania. Descendant locations include: California (San Bernadino), Missouri (Cole), Ohio (Lucas), Pennsylvania (Allegheny, Armstrong, Cambria, Clearfield, Indiana), Washington (Clark, King)
  • Earliest Known Ancestor: undetermined. The proclaimed (and WikiTree connected) paternal ancestor of Gasper Roland (1721-1809) is in direct conflict with the DNA evidence of Rowland DNA Group I. Both of them cannot be correct, but we do not currently have enough evidence to know which one is correct. However, given the Group I haplogroup of I-M170 is more likely to be Germanic, it is our belief Gasper belongs to DNA Group I.
  • 4 Y-DNA kits in the group
  • Two of the identified pre-1900 ancestors (John Peter Roland and Henry Clay Roland) are brothers, both being sons of William Roland (1842-1917). William has 44 descendants identified in WikiTree (as of 31 Dec 2023).
  • Locations of William’s descendants include: Indiana (Hendricks), Iowa (Keokuk), Michigan (Clare, Gladwin, Ingham, Tuscola, Wayne), Ohio (Seneca), Tennessee (Cumberland)
  • Note: Discrepancies with Group I with two kits claiming to be descendants of Gasper Roland
