John Rowland arrived in Whiteland Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania prior to 1735.  His descendants include the Rowlands of Cheltenham, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, and the Homlesburg and Rowlandville areas of Philadelphia.  The Rowland families owned extensive mills and manufacturing businesses in the area.
