DNA Group Z – Groups of 1

Xref Status Rowland DNA Groups of 1

The “Groups of 1” are Rowland Y-DNA test-takers who have not been matched with any other test-takers. Once they get a match with another member of the Rowland Project, they will be “grouped with each other” and assigned their own unique group identification.

Group Z versus Untested

The DNA Untested page lists more than 20 known Rowland lines with Descendant Trees documented in WikiTree. To the best of our knowledge, none of the thousands of Rowland male descendants in any of these trees has taken a Y-DNA test.

The approximately 30 Y-DNA kits listed on this page represent Rowland males who have taken a Y-DNA. However, they do not have any Y-DNA matches with any other members of the Rowland Project. Each is a potential new Rowland Y DNA Group, although since they do not have any matches, each one is a Group of 1.

A small subset of these have provided enough information to allow us to construct a descendant tree for their Group of 1. This helps identify potential branches where a living male Rowland could take a Y-DNA test, match up, and convert the Group of 1 into a full-fledged Rowland Y-DNA Group.

At this time, we have no reason to believe that any of the Y-DNA testers above belong to any of the DNA Untested descendants trees. We would love to be proven wrong, so if you know of any that can be linked, then please let us know.
